Residential Experience

The Marchant-Holliday School has a Residential House. We have a dedicated Care Team who work hard to create a happy and homely environment. Each child has their own bedroom and we encourage them to personalise their space with toys, books, posters, and photographs from home, if they would like to.

Every child has a key worker who gives a helping hand when needed and spends time encouraging the boys to develop new skills. The key worker is the main contact for parents and carers but all staff in the houses work with all the boys, so there is always someone around who can chat with parents and carers if they have questions.

We are lucky to have our own high quality catering team who prepare delicious meals onsite each day. For breakfast, there is a choice of cereals, toast and spreads, yoghurts, fruit, and juices. At lunchtime and dinner time, there is a choice of the main meal, a vegetarian meal, or a lighter meal to choose from. We like to get to know what our children’s favourite foods are and we cater for special dietary requirements.

We believe that whilst our children are playing, not only are they having fun and keeping healthy, but they are developing essential life and social skills. The children have a choice of a variety of activities each day and they are encouraged to put forward their ideas for what they would like to do. On-site, we are lucky to have fantastic grounds to play in and explore. We have play equipment to climb and run around on, a sandpit, swings, a trampoline, our own quarry, where the children like to make dens. The children also like to help make bonfires and barbeques in the evening.

The school has a sports hall, which we call the rec, an art and craft room, an ICT room, a console room, a kitchen for developing cooking skills and in indoor heated swimming pool. The children enjoy going out and exploring our local community with visits to local skate parks, play parks and local walks. There is always an option to relax and watch a film or play a board game after a busy school day too.
