Elm & Ash visit the sealife centre in weymouth 26th January 2025

On Monday 26th January Elm and Ash classes went to Weymouth Sealife centre as part of their learning experience Under the Sea. We arrived at Weymouth Sealife to be greeted by staff members who gave us a map of the Sealife and discussed the different attractions. We first went to explore the rock pools, pupils enjoyed putting their hands in the water and stroking the starfish and looking at the different sea urchins, anemones and crabs.

We made our way through the different sea attractions such as the nursery, the turtle sanctuary and the tropical lagoon. We saw a range of incredible sea creatures, including huge sharks, seals, stingrays, seahorses and clownfish!

Then we were introduced to Web, Luna, Sija and Tyne and saw the demonstration of the seals being fed, it was amazing to see them following instructions. It started to rain so we took cover under the shelter and saw the seals swimming underwater. Next we made our way into the penguin enclosure, pupils enjoyed being able to compare themselves to the size of different penguins such as Emperor penguin, Fairy penguins or Humboldt penguins. We were able to see the penguins walking around outside and from the underwater viewing area.

We then had a picnic lunch and made our way to explore the ocean tunnel where pupils watched animals swimming over and around them. We walked around the otter enclosure but unfortunately we were not able to find any. Just before we were about to leave, we were able to catch the Humboldt penguins being fed. The pupils listened intently to the instructor when she was telling us different facts. They were able to ask some interesting questions before we left.
