On Wednesday 22nd January, Willow class went to Cheddar Gorge and caves as part of their learning experience History Rocks. Upon arrival, we ventured straight into Gough’s cave. A cave expert, who showed us the location of the Cheddar Man skeleton, greeted us and explained how the River Yeo had formed the caves over many thousands of years. We really enjoyed exploring the cave, which seemed to go on and on forever.
After a quick snack break, we headed over to the Pre History Museum. We were met by a Stone Age woman who showed us her home and a variety of her tools. We asked her lots of questions about how she lived. She showed us how to start a fire using just wood and friction; she also demonstrated how she formed tools out of flint. All the class agreed that her collection of animal bones were very impressive.
After enjoying lunch in the café, it was time to head home. We all thoroughly enjoyed our day out and came back inspired to learn more about the Stone Age.
