On Thursday 18th April, Discovery class visited The Roman Baths as part of our introduction to the Roll out the Romans learning experience.
We discovered that the reason the Romans settled in the area was because the hot spring was a special place and they built the baths around it. We found out that bathing was an important part of Roman civilisation and that it wasn’t just about washing, there were areas for massage and exercise too. We enjoyed looking at the different artefacts and learning about the Roman engineering required in the building. We found it really useful to have our own audio guides so that we could listen to and process the information at our own pace.
We talked to two Romans who told us about life in first century Roman Britain and what it was like for a lady and her slave. We had the opportunity to sample some of the spring water, it tasted a bit strange.
We then had lunch and a play in Green Park before returning to school.
