Endurance Class

Welcome to our class! We are all proud to be members of Team Endurance. The staff who work in our class are Mr Coombes (Teacher) and Mr Barrett (Teaching Assistant). As a team we learn to work collaboratively by solving problems, sharing ideas, supporting each other and having open discussions with the teaching staff.

Our learning is brought to life through a variety of learning experiences, resources, hands-on artefacts and experiences both within and outside the classroom. Our extensive school grounds enable us to have the opportunity to learn in a wide variety of settings and enjoy a 24-hour curriculum.

We are fortunate to go on some amazing visits, especially residential trips which we are looking forward to. We are also learning to interact with others in fun, educational activities with local schools.

We are learning: Autumn Term

Our first learning experience in September will be 'Crime and Punishment'. During the half term, we will be finding out about the history and development of crime and punishment. We will be investigating the history of crimes, and the sanctions used as deterrents, from the Romans through to the present day. To support our engagement with the topic and deepen our knowledge, we will be visiting the former prison at Shepton Mallet to discover its 400-year history and having a CSI Day.

We will be examining some of the structures and devices that were used as punishments and will gain inspiration from the stocks in North Cheriton to make replica models.

In Art, we will ask the question; 'Is Graffiti vandalism or art?' and study the works of Keith Haring and Banksy.

Narrative poems will be the focus of our English lessons and we will use inspiration from Alfred Noyes' 'The Highwayman' to write our own.
